Marching Together

Every year, there is a battle in the band-to find the true and honorable leaders to conduct and direct the band throughout their competitions and performances. They are the drum majors,

Levi Malphrus, Allison Wilburn, and Anna Jacob. For a lot of us outside the band room, the life of a band kid is busy and devoted to the music, especially here at Teays. We are very proud of our Golden Sound marching band, and already this year they have won a grand champ at an OMEA competition.

So, what is a drum major anyway? A drum major has the job of leading the band through their songs by conducting and playing the role of the band director. This lead gives the Majors a chance to  experience leadership skills

as well as “controlling the music”.

The Drum Majors are selected through a series of evaluations and workshops that  help the majors-in-training do their very best once they are auditioning for the task of being Drum Major. It is important for Drum Majors to be the very best because they are responsible for the band and leading the musicians to greatness. It is an honor to be a Drum Major, and is a position that is highly respected.
