By: Allee Sprague

“Columbus Underground” named Barroluco Argentine the best food truck of 2017 in Columbus, Ohio. As shown in the title, it serves a lot of food from Argentina. The article also mentioned the second and third-place food trucks, The Meatball Mafia and Kenny’s Meat Wagon. However, there are a lot of other popular food trucks in the area:

Late Night Slice - Located in the short north, this truck serves strictly pizza, along with a variety of their own sauces. “Mikey's Late Night Slice reserves the right to close early, open late or remain closed on any day for any reason. This includes but is not limited to: bad weather, beautiful weather, good fishing days, bad fishing days, exhaustion, hangovers, or a good party,” (https://roaminghunger.com/late-night-slice/).

Short North Bagel Deli - Also in the short north, they serve deli sandwiches on bagels.

Hot Chicken Takeover - While the food truck is mobile on the streets of Columbus, they are also located inside of the North Market. They serve traditional southern food consisting of fried chicken, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and more.

The Cheesy Truck - As the name says, they specialize in specialty grilled cheese sandwiches.

Fall is here and so is the food!

By: Lindsey Clay and Lacey Urban

Fall is kicking summer out and it’s coming back in! Fall is bringing back all of our favorites, including the pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks! Pumpkin is stealing the spotlight once again. Our local coffee joints and ice cream shops are releasing their pumpkin Delicacies. Tim Hortons also has their famous Pumpkin Spice Latte out and it’s a hit. Dairy Queen has their appetizing Pumpkin Blizzards as well as Dairy Diamonds Pumpkin Milkshakes. After a long day at school go grab your pumpkin dessert. One thing that you should be eating this fall include some overnight oats. Canadians use overnight oats as a time saver that lasts for days in the fridge. Sweet and Salty Candied Pumpkin Seeds are another fall food that you can eat! These seeds are not just for harvesting from your jack o’lanterns, pumpkin seeds are being sprinkled on salads, mixed into granola bars and baked into bread. Poke is a Hawaiian fish dish that’s blooming with color. The fresh fish bowl has its roots in the pacific islands where raw fish is often enjoyed over rice or greens with add-ins like seaweed, green onions and soy sauce. Other fall foods you can try are apples, beets, brussels sprouts and cabbage, cranberries, pears, persimmons, pomegranates, pumpkins, rutabagas and turnips, squash and sweet potatoes.

Where to Eat for Homecoming

By: Lacey Urban

With Homecoming coming up soon, homecoming groups and dates need a place to eat prior to the big dance. Whether it is a quick bite or a sit down dinner, everyone needs some food before they get down. Of course there are the usual places; fast food, roosters, canes, chipotle, etc. One high class steakhouse in Colmbus is called The Top, and it’s a very classy way to start the night off great. Other places to eat at that are less expensive and more realistic are:O’charley’s, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, Fiesta Mariachi, Red Lobster, and Piada.

Noah Whitaker, a senior at Teays Valley, has been to The Top and says, “Steak taste great!” Take it from him and make your reservations today!

Pumpkin Show Comes to an End

By: Lindsey Clay

Pumpkin Show was definitely one to remember this year. Teays Valley brought home the queen, Carley Miller! Pumpkin show’s food was excellent, as always, and the rides were so fun. Lacey Urban says, “the food was very good, it gets better every year.” Not only does the food get better each year, but everything else gets better each year. The parade was one of the best the Pumpkin Show has ever had. The biggest pumpkin was 1,701 lbs grown by Cecil Weston! The second largest pumpkin was 1,562 lbs which Bella Liggett had grown. Also, third place went to Mark Hoffhines his pumpkin weighing 1,155.5 lbs. Along with the queen Carly Miller, Brittany Lott, from Zane Trace, won 1st Attendant while Elizabeth Sahr, from Amanda, won 2nd Attendant. The Little Miss pumpkin show queen was Mya Jade Picklesimer, Tinley Maxson won 1st Attendant and Lydia Kathryn Marcum won 2nd Attendant. Pumpkin show was definitely a hit this year. Let’s see how good it’ll be next year!

Better and Bitter Trick or Treats

By: Lindsey Clay

Halloween is the spooky time of the year. October 31st is the day of halloween but you may not be trick or treating that day. You may not even trick-or-treat, but you can hand out candy! The trick or treaters love candy especially Kit Kats, Starbursts, Twix, Pop Rocks, Butterfingers, Snickers, Nerds, Sour Patch Kids, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Crunch Bars. Candy that they do not like include Smarties, Raisins, pencils, Good and Plenty, Candy Corn, Dots, Now or Laters, hard candy, flavored tootsie rolls, and bubble gum. Lacey Urban said her favorite is butterfingers and her least favorite is raisins. Zach Kirk says, “every boy loves smarties.” Even if the studies show that kids think smarties are the worse, some people still love them! Then Hayley Urban agrees with the studies saying, “reese cups are definitely the best.” Overall many people like many different things. Halloween is a time where you can get dressed up as someone else and get free candy!
